Terms of Service

Last updated April 2026

These terms govern your use of Bwalo (bwalo.co.zm). By creating an account or attending a Bwalo event, you agree to them. The short version: use Bwalo in good faith, pay what you owe, and don't behave in ways that harm the community. The longer version is below.

Who can use Bwalo

You must be 18 years or older to create a Bwalo account. By creating an account you confirm that you are 18 or over. You are responsible for keeping your account credentials secure. One account per person — we don't allow shared or organisational accounts.

Explorer accounts (free)

Creating an account is free. During the current founding period, all events are free and open to all members regardless of tier. This will be updated when Circle Membership launches.

Free accounts have no expiry. You can delete your account at any time from your profile settings.

Circle Membership

Note: Circle Membership is not yet available. This section will take effect when paid membership launches.

Billing.Your membership begins on the date of first payment and renews on the same calendar date each month. If that date doesn't exist in a given month (e.g. the 31st in February), billing occurs on the last day of that month.

Cancellation. You can cancel at any time from your dashboard. Cancellation takes effect at the end of the current billing period — you keep full access until then. We do not issue pro-rated refunds for partial months.

Refunds. Payments are non-refundable except where required by applicable Zambian consumer protection law. If you believe a payment was made in error, contact us at hello@bwalo.co.zm within 7 days of the transaction.

Failed payments. If a payment fails, we'll notify you by email. Your membership will be paused after 7 days of non-payment and suspended after 14 days. You won't lose your account — just member-only access until payment is resolved.

Price changes. We'll give you at least 30 days' notice by email before any price increase. Continuing your membership after the notice period constitutes acceptance of the new price.

Events and RSVPs

RSVPs are personal — they cannot be transferred, gifted, or sold to another person. If you can't attend an event, please cancel your RSVP through your dashboard so your spot can go to someone on the waitlist. We ask this as a community courtesy, not a legal obligation.

Repeated no-shows without cancellation — more than three times in a rolling 90-day period — may result in your RSVP access being temporarily restricted. We'll contact you before doing this.

Bwalo may cancel, reschedule, or change the format of any event at any time for safety, logistical, or operational reasons. Where an event is cancelled by us and you hold an RSVP, we'll notify you by email as soon as possible.

Guest policy (Circle Members)

Circle Members may bring one guest (a +1) to any event at no additional charge. The member is responsible for their guest's conduct at the event and the guest is subject to the same Code of Conduct standards as members. Guests who violate the Code of Conduct may be removed and the member who brought them may face consequences under these terms.

Conduct

All members and guests must abide by our Code of Conduct. Violations — including harassment, discrimination, threatening behaviour, or conduct that materially harms the experience of others — may result in removal from the event in question, suspension of RSVP privileges, or permanent account termination. Refunds are not issued where termination results from a conduct violation.

Photographs and social media

Bwalo staff or designated photographers may photograph or video events for use on Bwalo's own channels. If you'd prefer not to be photographed, let a host know on the night and we will respect that. Members must not post identifiable photos of other members on social media without their explicit consent.

Intellectual property

The Bwalo name, logo, and website content are our intellectual property. You may not use them without written permission. Content you submit to Bwalo (such as profile information) remains yours, but you grant us a licence to display it within the platform.

Limitation of liability

Bwalo events are social gatherings. We take reasonable care in curating venues and attendees, but we are not responsible for personal injury, property damage, or other harm that occurs at events, except where this results from our own negligence. Attending events is at your own risk.

To the extent permitted by Zambian law, our total liability to you for any claim arising from use of Bwalo is limited to the amount you paid us in the 3 months prior to the claim.

Termination

You can delete your account at any time. We may suspend or terminate your account if you violate these terms, provide false information, or engage in conduct that is harmful to the community. Where possible, we'll contact you before doing so.

Governing law

These terms are governed by the laws of the Republic of Zambia. Any disputes shall be subject to the jurisdiction of Zambian courts.

Changes to these terms

We'll notify you by email at least 14 days before making material changes to these terms. Continued use of Bwalo after that period constitutes acceptance of the updated terms.
